Manufacturing
Product costs and margins
What a product costs — manufactured from its recipe, or bought as is.
What you can do
- The “Costs” tab of the product page adds up the unit cost: materials, taken from the recipe (or, for a product bought as is, the purchase price entered), plus packaging, labour, inbound shipping and other variable costs.
- A product is declared as bought as is with the “This product is purchased as is” box, in the “Stock” tab of its page.
- The margin is always calculated on the price excluding tax, according to the method set in Configuration › Company, “Tax settings” card (prices tax inclusive or tax exclusive).
- An unknown cost is shown as unknown — never counted as zero: a margin calculated on a gap would be a lie in figures.
